SCTP and Kolar Arms Announce Renewed Sponsorship

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) would like to recognize its continued sponsorship by Kolar Arms of Racine, WI. in support of the youth shooting sports!

Kolar, a long time manufacturer of High quality shotguns stated that they would support the SCTP with a donation of one of their finest shotguns. The Kolar “Low Max” over/under. This firearm will be available in either a sporting/skeet model or a trap model. The donation estimated at roughly $12,000 will be in support of the SCTP and its nationally recognized youth shooting program.

“Kolar is absolutely delighted to sponsor the SCTP and its youth shooting efforts with a fully American made shotgun!” Stated Jeff Mainland, CEO of Kolar Arms. “SCTP has demonstrated its ability to use a donation and support not only the source, but support its teams and program as well! This is something Kolar and all Industry sponsors appreciate.”

“We appreciate the support and confidence that Kolar has placed in the SCTP!” Said Tom Wondrash, the SCTP National Director. “We are very grateful for the donation and look forward to a long lasting relationship with Kolar in support of our youth shooting teams across the country”.

SCTP 2018 Virtual League Series

Registration for the Scholastic Clay Target Program 2018 Virtual League Series is now open. The virtual league series is a fun, easy and FREE way to compete with other teams across the nation without leaving your home range! Competition opportunities are available in trap and skeet for youth of all ages!

Who can participate?

Any fully registered SCTP athlete in good standing may participate in the virtual league series. There will be two sets of leagues in 2018 based on age:

  1. Grades 12 and under
  2. Collegiate

When and where are the competitions?

Each virtual series is a 150 target league that will run for 6 weeks (25 targets / week). Targets are shot at your home range or wherever it is most convenient for your team on a given week. Targets may be shot on any day of the week and scores must be recorded in the SHOT system that same week. Dates for the series are as follows:

  • Trap and skeet grades 12 and under Winter Virtual Series: February 19 to April 1
    • Registration deadline is February 18
  • Trap and skeet collegiate Spring Virtual Series: April 2 to May 13
    • Registration deadline is April 1
  • Trap and skeet grades 12 and under Spring Virtual Series: April 16 to May 27
    • Registration deadline is April 15

How can my team participate?

Teams and athletes must be fully registered with the Scholastic Clay Target Program and have their team setup in the SHOT system. After initial team registration, a coach must sign up their athletes for the Virtual League Series prior to the virtual league series registration deadlines noted above.

To complete the series, athletes must shoot 25 targets each week and coaches must record those scores to the SHOT System that same week prior to midnight each Sunday in order to successfully complete the league. Athletes may shoot their virtual scores anytime during the week including regular practices but must declare the round to count towards the virtual series prior to shooting. Coaches must collect and retain the score sheets used for virtual league series scores. Late scores cannot be accepted and athletes missing a week or coaches not turning in a score on time will result in a score of zero for the week.

Are there any prizes?

Priorities for the virtual league series include having fun, encouraging camaraderie among teammates and providing exposure to a competition atmosphere. All SCTP teams with athletes who participate and have scores entered into SHOT for all six weeks will be entered into a random drawing for a Tristar setter over/under shotgun! This gun may be used as a team firearm or for team fundraising purposes.

How do I register and enter scores for the virtual league?

Once your team is fully registered with the SCTP, follow the directions in our download to see how to register athletes and enter scores each week.

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact anyone of us at the SCTP!

2018 SCTP National Team Trains in Gainesville

Thinking to start the year with some early season warm weather training, the Scholastic Clay Target Program National Team held its first training camp of 2018 at Gator Skeet and Trap Club in Gainesville, Florida January 3-5. Winter Storm Grayson, however, had other ideas. In spite of pouring rain and freezing temperatures, these athletes accepted the challenge, layered up, and shot just over 5000 targets in three days.

SCTP athletes in attendance included  Mark Shields (NT/Missouri), AJ Nomina (NT/Colorado), Sarah Schwacher (NT/Wisconsin), Jack Brosseau (NT/Florida), Tyler Thiede (NT/Wisconsin), Madeleine Taylor (NT/Alaska), Jay Bible (walk on/Florida), Abbey Wigh (walk on/Florida), Scott Schuldt (walk on/Florida).

“It was pretty miserable the first day, but they put their heads down and went to work. Goals don’t wait for the weather to clear up,” said head coach, Terri DeWitt. She and assistant skeet coach Joe Buffa will host another training camp in Tucson, Arizona prior to the USA Shooting Spring Selection Match in March. Other training camps are planned for 2018, but not yet finalized.

“We couldn’t be more proud of Terri and the leadership she is providing for the SCTP National Team!” Said SCTP National Director, Tom Wondrash. “This practice and training is one of many to come that will help these team members surge in the International disciplines. People like Terri and Joe Buffa out there working with these athletes is a very welcome addition to our program!”

National Team (NT) athletes earned their spot via participation and placement in the 2017 Scholastic Clay Target Program International Championships held July 23-29, 2017.

2018 national team members receive ongoing coaching in the international shooting disciplines, a USA Shooting jacket, paid fall selection match fees and ammo, along with an SCTP National Team vest, five cases of NobelSport Quattro Finest International ammunition and more!

SCTP Welcomes New Sponsor – Aguila Ammunition

The Scholastic Clay Target Program would like to welcome Aguila Ammunition to its lengthy list of supporters for the 2018 competitive shooting year!

Aguila shotgun shells are redefining the genre. Aguila’s extensive shotshell line has something for everyone – whether the application is hunting, competition, clays, or home defense – from .410 to 12 Gauge and everything in between. Just ask Dave Miller, Guinness world record holder and Aguila Ammunition user!

“Aguila Ammunition is proud to partner with the SCTP and support its mission of providing team shooting opportunities for young athletes,” says Kristi Drawe, Director of Marketing for Aguila Ammunition. “We’re looking forward to being a part of this year’s National Championships and introducing young shooters to the Aguila brand.”

“The SCTP is very excited to onboard quality ammunition manufacturers like Aguila!” Said Tom Wondrash, SCTP’s National Director. “Aguila will help us handle the growing need for ammunition and special pricing to all of our SCTP Teams and families across the country!”

Look for Aguila at this year’s national championships being held July 14th – 21st at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio!

Purchase ATA/NSCA/NSSA Memberships Through SCTP and Receive Team Endowment Funds!

Is your team planning on shooting your 2018 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) state shoot or perhaps a regional or our national event this year? If so, we have a program to help SCTP teams with National Governing Body (NGB) fees for the 2017/2018 shooting season as well as growing your team’s MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment account!

Background

Since 2007 the Scholastic Clay Target Program has maintained partnerships with several of our NGB’s including the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA)National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA) and National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA). These partnerships require that we host “registered events” at our state (where possible) and national championships and therefore our athletes competing in these events must have current memberships with the respective NGB.

These partnerships provide many benefits to SCTP athletes including:

  1. Provide a pathway and additional opportunities for youth and families to continue participating in competition clay target shooting outside of the regular SCTP season.
  2. Provide much needed SCTP Scholarship funding to our graduating athletes. In 2017 the SSSF awarded $99,600 in college scholarships, supported in part by donations from our NGB partners.
  3. Enable SCTP athletes to apply for scholarship funds available only to national governing body members through the respective NGB scholarship programs.
  4. National governing bodies provide an official historical record of an athlete’s scores which are frequently requested when applying to colleges with shooting programs.

Facilitating continued involvement in the shooting sports is part of the mission of the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation /SCTP and we believe these partnerships with NGBs help us accomplish our mission.

2018 Incentive Program

For every dollar that your team spends on NGB memberships sent in through the SHOT system, we will send that exact amount of money to your team’s MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment account! This will include your team’s coaches and adult volunteer memberships that are also paid through our system!!

For example: “Team A” has 100 athletes who all shoot Trap. They remit payment (through SHOT or via check to SCTP Headquarters) for 100 athletes’ ATA membership dues of $12 per athlete = $1,200. The SCTP/SSSF will then send that exact amount of money into “Team A’s” Midway USA Foundation account. It’s that simple! This only includes NGB membership dues paid through the SCTP. Dues paid directly to the ATA, NSCA or NSSA are not eligible.

This will include ALL NGB membership dues paid starting Sept. 1st, 2017 until May 31st OR until the first $150,000 in NGB membership dues have been received, whichever occurs first. Teams MUST have an active account with the MidwayUSA Foundation prior to May 31st in order to receive Team Endowment funding.

So coaches, when registering your team remember to pay athlete NGB membership dues at that time to take advantage of this opportunity to grow your teams’ MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment accounts! Taking care of these fees at the time of athlete registration is as simple as checking a box in the SHOT system!

Please feel free to contact our SCTP staff if you have any questions.
