The SSSF is in the second year of a campaign entitled, “VISION 20/20”! The goal is to grow participation to over 20,000 student athletes involved in the SCTP and SASP annually by the year 2020. Use Team ID SSSF at the time of your donation or give to your favorite team by using a specific Team ID at the time of your donation! The campaign runs through 12/31/17.

SCTP Mourns Loss of William P. Stonestreet, II

From the Kokomo Perspective – William P. Stonestreet, II, 18, Kokomo, passed away at 1:50 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne. He was born September 8, 1999, in Kokomo, to William P. and Andrea (Gabriel) Stonestreet.

Will was a senior at Northwestern High School and was also enrolled in the Integrated Technology Education Program at Ivy Tech in Advanced Manufacturing. He worked in the pizza room at Martinos Italian Villa. Will was an avid outdoorsman who loved outdoor sports. He always went fishing with his friends every chance he got. He was a member of the Scholastic Clay Target Program and shot trap and skeet since he was eight years old at the Izaak Walton League.

Survivors include his parents, William and Andrea Stonestreet; sister, Ariel (Joshua) Byers; niece, Aisley Ann Byers; nephew, Arlen Daniel Byers; paternal grandparents, Lee and Jan Stonestreet; maternal grandparents, Felix and Anita Gabriel; aunts, Felicia Morris and Marcus Johnson, and Cheryl and Miranda Stonestreet; uncles, Eric and Tonya Gabriel, Brian and Millie Gabriel, and Rob and Mary Ellen Stonestreet; his beloved girlfriend, Lauren Atwell; several cousins, Josh, Cameron, Courtney, Shawn, Matthew, Brittany, Conner, Anna, James and Teresa; his beloved dog, Maggie; and many, many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 1705 E. Southway Blvd., Kokomo, with Pastor Kurt Gremel officiating. Friends are invited to visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo. Memorial contributions may be in made in Will’s memory to the Scholastic Clay Target Program. Messages of condolence may be expressed online at www.stoutandson.com.

$30,000 In Bonus Team Endowment Funding Up For Grabs

All teams involved in the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) are eligible to earn BONUS funding to their MidwayUSA Foundation team endowment accounts through the SSSF’s Vision 20/20 campaign! This years’ campaign ends on December 31, 2017 and the top six fundraising teams will receive a total of $30,000 in BONUS team endowment funds.

Donate to your favorite team via the SSSF website or downloadable form to help support team needs now and forever! Teams will receive 1/2 of each donation as a cash grant from the SSSF and the other 1/2 of the donation will be matched net 2:1 to the team’s endowment account held at the MidwayUSA Foundation! Download our calculator to see how your tax-deductible donation will make a difference then donate online using your favorite team’s SSSF team ID to get your team in the race for BONUS team endowment funding!

Matching is made possible via the generous donations from Larry and Brenda Potterfield to the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation and the MidwayUSA Foundation.

2017 SCTP College Nationals

Marengo, OH – The SCTP College Nationals were held October 27-29, 2017 at the “Spooky” Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, OH. The facility, decked out with ghouls, goblins and witches, was once again the host for this 3^rd annual College event!

231 athletes of representing 25 teams from 15 states made up over 700 registrations at this year’s College Nationals! Throwing over 125,000 clay targets in Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, Bunker Trap and 5-Stand kept the Cardinal Center staff quite busy for a few days.

This year’s tournament experienced some very “terrifying” weather thanks to Mother Nature! Rain and snow coupled with temperatures dipping into the low 30’s made for some very interesting rounds!

Division 1 teams comprised of this year’s (HOA) champions, Lindenwood University of Missouri! Runner up, Midland University of Nebraska gave them a tough battle as did 3^rd place Bethel College from Tennessee.

Division II teams included this year’s champion’s Martin Methodist of Tennessee (who had the overall HOA high score for the 2^nd straight year), runner-up Ft. Hayes State University of Kansas followed by Hillsdale College of Michigan.

Division III schools were represented by this year’s National Champions Emanuel College of Georgia, Runner-ups University of Alabama Clay Shooting Team and 3^rd place team, Eastern Kentucky University.

This year, the SCTP added Division IV. This newly added division will consist of 2 Year Colleges of which was won by Roane State Community College of Tennessee with Runner-up, Hawkeye Community College of Iowa!

Individuals turning in stellar performances included Ladies HOA winner, Paige Denny of the Midland University Shotgun Team and Men’s HOA winner, Riley Ross representing Ft. Hayes State. These athletes won Shamrock Leather Shooting bags compliments of the SCTP and Shamrock! Other notables were a perfect performance shot in the Skeet event (200 Straight) by Eli Christman – Martin Methodist College!

Braving the snow and frigid temperatures all day at the 2017 SCTP College Nationals on Saturday, athletes found some energy to compete in a “Spooktacular” Last Competitor Standing competition along with a costume judging contest (by their peers)!

For the costume contest, coming in 1^st place and dressed as a Panda Bear was Darrien Lettman. 2^nd place went to Noah Adair dressed as a clown and 3^rd place went to a chicken worn by Mark Beardsley! These athletes were awarded shamrock leather products and ammunition provided by Fiocchi. Congratulations and great job by all of our costume wearing athletes!!

Competing in the Last Competitor Standing competition and toughing out the below average temperatures of a late October evening were the following athletes: Dressed as a “T-Rex” and fighting off all competition was the champion and “Last Competitor Standing”, Christian Salvanera! The Runner up award was won by Andy Carey with 3^rd place going to Ty McCaskey, 4^th awarded to Marcus Draves and 5^th going to Nathan Hembree!

Great job to all of the competitors and we sure hope you all had a wonderful time!

“Great facility, great teams/coaches/athletes/parents and cold weather! The SCTP Team worked very hard and thoroughly enjoyed working with these great teams. We are extremely excited and looking forward to next year’s tournament!” commented Tom Wondrash, SCTP National Director. “We received the final score sheet at about 2:00pm on Sunday, started handing out awards at 2:15 and were finished (waving good-bye) to the teams and athletes by 3:00pm! It just doesn’t get any better than that for these teams!”

National and Regional Competitions Kickoff Friday in Ohio

Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) teams from across the country will be in action this weekend at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, OH competing for national and regional titles.

The 2017 SCTP College National Championships starts Friday with 239 athletes from 16 states pre-registered. College athletes will compete in trap, skeet, sporting clays, 5-stand and international bunker trap over three days. Over 700 event entries are currently registered with Martin Methodist College and others back to defend their 2016 titles.

The 2017 SASP Ohio Regional event will feature over 100 athletes from six states competing for titles in rimfire pistol, centerfire pistol, rimfire rifle (iron sights), rimfire rifle (optics) and the new 1911 division.

The Cardinal Center will be decked out in Halloween decor with student-athletes participating in costume contests on Saturday. Everyone will be sure to have a “spooktacular” time!

How the SCTP has helped me as a young person: The Scholastic Clay Target Program has taught me gun safety and respect. I have been blessed to shoot with kids of all different ages and abilities. You can always learn more and help others by reminding them the techniques that we learn from our coaches. Every coach has taught me something new that I can take with me into my college years on my university shooting team. This program allows you to meet people from different states with one main thing in common, our love and respect for shooting. SCTP has helped me develop into a responsible, respectful, young man who appreciates his parents for allowing me to be very active in a sport that I love.

The All-Scholastic Team recognizes the top student athletes in the SSSF’s Scholastic Clay Target and Scholastic Action Shooting Program for their achievements in the classroom, on the range and in their communities. Through an application process, 2017 All-Scholastic Team Members have proven academic excellence by posting 3.0 or better grade point averages, shooting excellent scores in recent competition (95% in trap or skeet, 85% in sporting clays, 88% in international trap/skeet or 75 seconds or less for SASP) and by demonstrating outstanding community involvement.

MidwayUSA Foundation Adds Over Half a Million To Youth Shooting Team Endowments

Columbia, MO– The year of 2017 continues to be a very positive one for youth shooting sports, specifically for those teams with a MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment. In September, alone, donations to the MidwayUSA Foundation generated $598,500 in matching dollars. The Matching Program matches contributions to youth shooting team endowments, 2:1, and is possible because of the generosity and passion of Larry and Brenda Potterfield. Their donations fund the program. Nearly 200 youth shooting teams benefited from this September matching contribution.

“There aren’t a lot of organizations that are able to offer a 2:1 match and we are thrilled to see more and more teams are taking advantage of that,” said Randy Moeller, MidwayUSA Foundation Executive Director. “With the giving season right around the corner we are expecting donations to continue to increase in the coming months and we are able to triple those contributions.”

Through the MidwayUSA Foundation website (midwayusafoundation.org/donate) donors can choose the team that will benefit from their contribution. Donations are tax deductible and 100% of the donation, as well as the match, benefits that team. The Foundation keeps zero for operating expenses. The 2:1 match will end in 2017.

The MidwayUSA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity working to sustain the shooting sports industry by providing long-term funding to youth shooting teams. Every donation made is 100% tax deductible and supports the mission to help communities and organizations raise funds to support their youth shooting team. Join or Renew ATA, NSSA, NSCA Memberships Through SHOT

As a reminder, any Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) athletes planning to compete in state or national SCTP events in the 2018 season must be members of the respective national governing body (NGB). Athletes in SCTP trap singles events must be members of Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) and athletes competing in SCTP state or national skeet or sporting clays events must be members of National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA) or National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA). All targets will be registered with the respective NGB for those events.

Through an agreement with each organization the SCTP receives funding from each NGB to support the annual SCTP Scholarship fund. Scholarship funds are only generated when payment is made through the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation’s SHOT System. Coaches wishing to join with any of the NGBs may also do so through the SHOT System. The process is simple and can be done while managing other tasks through your team login.

Please complete the registrations and payments at least 30 days prior to your scheduled competition to ensure time for processing of membership credentials through the respective NGB offices.
