SSSF Basic Shotgun Course continues to strengthen youth shooting sports

The SSSF Basic Shotgun Course continues to strengthen SCTP programs across the country, and in South Georgia this weekend 13 new coaches became SSSF Basic Shotgun Certified, adding to the growing network of trained volunteers supporting SCTP athletes.

I had the privilege of being invited to personally teach the course, and it was an outstanding group—enthusiastic, engaged, and ready to invest their time in the next generation of clay target athletes.

A special thank you to Jack Walker and the Gator Creek Young Guns for opening their personal range and pavilion to host the event. Support from local clubs and ranges like this plays a vital role in helping SCTP expand opportunities for youth shooting sports across the country.

The SSSF Basic Shotgun Course provides the foundation for many of the volunteers who assist SCTP teams. It equips coaches and range volunteers with the training needed to safely support athletes while reinforcing the strong safety culture that defines the program. Increasingly, teams are also encouraging parents of athletes to take the course, allowing them to become more involved with their teams while helping coaches maintain a safe and well-run range environment.

One of the most rewarding moments of the day was seeing a recently graduated SCTP athlete attend the class so he could become certified and give back to the program that helped shape his own shooting journey. When former athletes return as coaches and mentors, it is one of the clearest signs of the lasting impact SCTP is making.

Georgia has been fortunate to see strong growth in the program, and it is encouraging to watch new coaches step forward who are committed to supporting the next generation of athletes.

Congratulations to these 13 new certified coaches in South Georgia. Their commitment helps ensure that SCTP athletes continue to have strong leadership, a safe environment, and a bright future in the shooting sports.

Opportunities like this continue to grow because clubs and volunteers across the country are willing to step forward and invest in youth shooting sports.
