New for 2018!

Scholastic Clay Target Program High Over All Trap Event

SCTP will offer another High Over All (HOA) for teams that will include all of the “Trap” disciplines! Teams bringing athletes and competing in all 3 Trap disciplines of 16 yard Trap, Handicap Trap and Trap Doubles will have the opportunity for their team to earn a place among the top teams for a separate HOA!

This “Trap HOA” will be based on a team’s top 5 athletes in 16 yard trap, top 5 athletes in Handicap Trap and top 5 athletes in Trap Doubles. That total score will be used for the teams “Trap HOA”! It does not matter if the athletes are rookies or varsity as team scoring will be used!

These awards will be announced on the afternoon of Saturday, July 21st along with the Trap awards and overall HOA awards at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio.

Teams don’t have to do anything different, they just need to have 5 or more athletes compete in each of these 3 disciplines to be eligible!

Who Will Take Top Gun Honors in 2018?

The Scholastic Clay Target Program and Scholastic Action Shooting Program are excited to announce a new event at this year’s National Championships – the Top Gun Challenge.

Over the years we have watched the increase in athletes shooting multiple disciplines in both our programs at nationals. We wanted to find a way to recognize the commitment and stamina these athletes have shown competing in so many events, over the course of the week of nationals.

CZ-USA, a large sponsor of both SCTP and SASP heard us talking about wanting to start some kind of “Top Gun” competition and graciously offered to sponsor the top prize for the winner. CZ-USA will be donating a Shotgun, a Rifle and Pistol to SCTP/SASP and we will be awarding all three prizes to the High Overall Top Gun Challenge competitor.

With CZ’s support here is what we have come up with for the 2018 SCTP/SASP Nationals.

Top Gun Challenge Eligibility Criteria, Scoring and Prizes

  • Athletes wishing to compete in the Top Gun Challenge must be current team members in the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) AND the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP).
  • Athletes wishing to compete in the Top Gun Challenge must be pre-registered to shoot the following events at the 2018 National Championships:
    • 16 Yard Trap
    • Skeet
    • Sporting Clays
    • Rimifre Rifle (irons or optics)
    • Centerfire or Rimfire Pistol
  • Each athlete wishing to compete in the Top Gun Challenge must complete a registration form in person at either the SASP or SCTP registration desk located at the Cardinal Center Central Entry Building prior to competing in their first event. Athletes will then shoot all competition events as usual.
  • We will compile scores from your events and calculate the winners. Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays is easy you will get the total number of birds you break in each discipline, so a possible 600 points. Since SASP is based on time and not total targets hit, it will be done a little differently. We will take all participants and rank both their rifle times and their pistol times fastest to slowest.
    • The fastest in each discipline will get 200, second place 199, third place 198 and so on down the line until everyone has a score.  We will add all those points together and the athlete with the most points out of the possible 1000 will win.
  • Every Athlete who competes in all the events and signs up, will receive a Top Gun Challenge challenge coin just for participating and showing your shooting stamina.

Prizes for Athletes Grade 12 and Under

  • 1st prize – CZ USA 612 Target Shotgun, CZ 75 SP01 Phantom Pistol and a 512 American Rifle
  • 2nd Prize – CZ Drake 12ga. Over/Under
  • 3rd Prize – Certificate for a GLOCK Pistol
  • 4th Prize – Mossberg Blaze .22 Rifle
  • 5th Prize – Case of Aguila shotgun shells and 1000 rounds of Federal Premium Hunter Match .22 ammo
  • 6th Prize – Walker’s electronic hearing protection, Certificate for XX2I glasses

Prizes for Collegiate Athletes

  • 1st Prize Mossberg Blaze .22 Rifle
  • 2nd Prize Certificate for XX2I Glasses

SCTP and SASP want to thank all of our sponsors for their support of our programs and the Top Gun Challenge!

SCTP 2018 Virtual League Series

Registration for the Scholastic Clay Target Program 2018 Virtual League Series is now open. The virtual league series is a fun, easy and FREE way to compete with other teams across the nation without leaving your home range! Competition opportunities are available in trap and skeet for youth of all ages!

Who can participate?

Any fully registered SCTP athlete in good standing may participate in the virtual league series. There will be two sets of leagues in 2018 based on age:

  1. Grades 12 and under
  2. Collegiate

When and where are the competitions?

Each virtual series is a 150 target league that will run for 6 weeks (25 targets / week). Targets are shot at your home range or wherever it is most convenient for your team on a given week. Targets may be shot on any day of the week and scores must be recorded in the SHOT system that same week. Dates for the series are as follows:

  • Trap and skeet grades 12 and under Winter Virtual Series: February 19 to April 1
    • Registration deadline is February 18
  • Trap and skeet collegiate Spring Virtual Series: April 2 to May 13
    • Registration deadline is April 1
  • Trap and skeet grades 12 and under Spring Virtual Series: April 16 to May 27
    • Registration deadline is April 15

How can my team participate?

Teams and athletes must be fully registered with the Scholastic Clay Target Program and have their team setup in the SHOT system. After initial team registration, a coach must sign up their athletes for the Virtual League Series prior to the virtual league series registration deadlines noted above.

To complete the series, athletes must shoot 25 targets each week and coaches must record those scores to the SHOT System that same week prior to midnight each Sunday in order to successfully complete the league. Athletes may shoot their virtual scores anytime during the week including regular practices but must declare the round to count towards the virtual series prior to shooting. Coaches must collect and retain the score sheets used for virtual league series scores. Late scores cannot be accepted and athletes missing a week or coaches not turning in a score on time will result in a score of zero for the week.

Are there any prizes?

Priorities for the virtual league series include having fun, encouraging camaraderie among teammates and providing exposure to a competition atmosphere. All SCTP teams with athletes who participate and have scores entered into SHOT for all six weeks will be entered into a random drawing for a Tristar setter over/under shotgun! This gun may be used as a team firearm or for team fundraising purposes.

How do I register and enter scores for the virtual league?

Once your team is fully registered with the SCTP, follow the directions in our download to see how to register athletes and enter scores each week.

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact anyone of us at the SCTP!
